- Curator's comments
- After a painting exhibited at the Salon in 1827 and now in the Louvre (inv.7664). The painting was one of a series of four planned by Leopold Robert and representing the four seasons, each set in a different part of Italy. Only Spring, Summer and Winter were executed. This is the spring scene.
The Bibliographie de France records four plates engraved by Joubert after Robert on 19 August 1854: 'Les Moissonneurs', 'La Madone de l'Arc', 'Les Pêcheurs' (1st version), and 'Les Pêcheurs' (2nd version).
This is either a working proof or a finished state before letter. For etched state see 1885,1010.14. For earlier working proof see 1885,1010.15.
