- Curator's comments
- David Blayney Brown proposes that the set of tree studies in the British Museum (1885,0711.278-283) were probably made in 1810, while Wilkie was convalescing in Hampstead (‘Sir David Wilkie of Scotland’, exh. cat., North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh, p. 68). 1885,0711.280 is dated 'Oct 1810'.
