- Strandshag Bay appears on the eastern side of Derwentwater in the 1899 Ordnance Survey map, but the name fell out of use during the twentieth century; the artist would have taken the view from Friar's Crag at the northern end of the bay (information from Jason Pemberton-Piggot; his note and photocopy of Ordnance Survey Map have been placed in the dossier on this drawing).
