- This is reproduced by Williamson (John Downman ARA (London, 1907), p.23).
From an album of sketches and first ideas by Downman, collected by his daughter Isabella.
An identically inscribed and dated portrait of Miss Bulteel formed part of the now dismembered First Series of 'First Sketches.' It was No.20 in Vol.5 [MS. Catalogue of Portraits by John Downman (166.c.31)].
A finished portrait of Miss Bulteel was lent to the Amateur Art Exhibition held at Carlton House Terrace in May 1893, published in Catalogue of Portraits by John Downman , A.R.A (1760-1824), no.77, by Sir Henry Ponsonby [P&D N.I.9]
Volume 3 of the Third Series of Downman's 'First Sketches' includes later portraits of her brother John Bulteel, his wife, son and daughter, and Catherine's own daughter, Miss Harries (1967.1014181.96-99).
