- From an album of sketches and first ideas by Downman, collected by his daughter Isabella.
This follows a portrait of her husband Dr Hugh Downman (1884.0426.24).
Both studies are reproduced by Williamson (John Downman ARA (London, 1907), p.10-11).
There is another study of Mrs Downman in Volume 2 of the Third Series of Downman's 'First Studies' (1967,1014.181.78).
