Curator's comments
BM also has another impression, see 1843,0513.223 and a counterproof, see 1845,0809.1045. Label text from Nativity show: Krug was one of the most skilled designers and metalworkers in Nuremberg in Germany. His skill in cutting the copper plate is apparent from the atmospheric lighting of this nocturnal scene. The print is signed on a tablet with the artist’s initials on either side of a pot (krug in German).
