A Dutch broadside satirising the French forces after their defeats in 1706. An etching showing, on the left, a French soldier mounting a donkey, one leg in the stirrup the other supported on a wooden peg; he holds a broken chimney-sweeper's stick in place of a sword, a shield decorated with three frogs and a lance with a pennant; coins fall from his purse. Behind him, a road winds up a mountain on which are two groups of French cavalrymen armed with agricultural implements and mounted on each other rather than on horses, riding on the back of one man who holds the waist of another who walks in front; the foremost rider (the light cavalry) wears long spurs, the other (carabinier) wears wooden shoes. The main figure looks over his shoulder towards a scene inserted at top right that shows a naval battle during an eclipse and men riding on sea monster (see BM Satires 1426). Dutch and French text within image, letterpress title, verses on either side of the image, and a dialogue between Pasquin and Marforio. (n.p.:[1706])
