- Curator's comments
- Dated by Sprinzels to Hollar's first stay in London (i.e. c.1637-43), a suggestion that has been widely accepted since. The view can be compared with that in the left half of the etched 'Prospect of London and Westminster' (Pennington 1013). A copy or extensively reworked version of this drawing is now at Windsor (Volrábová A.II/26).
Stainton & White 1987
This view, which looks north and down river, was taken from near Lambeth Stairs, which can be seen in the right foreground with a number of moored wherries. It can be compared with the left half of the 'Prospect of London and Westminster' (Hind (1922) 18), and was probably drawn during the same period as 1859,0806.389.
