- Curator's comments
- We are grateful to Carlos Idrobo (email Feb 2021) for identifying the location of this drawings: 'This drawing by Franz Niklaus König features the then-known hospital square (Spitalplatz), also known as "zwischen den Thoren", in Bern, Switzerland. Nowadays is known as Bubenbergplatz. The tower on the right is the Christoffeltor or Christoffelturm, demolished in early 1865. The tower on the left is the Church tower of the Heiliggeistkirche, still standing. The building on the left is the Burgerspital, still open today as Burgerspittel am Bahnhofplatz.
A similar view is featured in a lithography by Franz Schmid (ca 1820-1830) and in a painting by Johann Grimm (ca 1743).
