Sketches in a Shaving Shop
Description
A design in twelve compartments arranged in three rows, and divided into approximately equal rectangles by intersecting lines; the figures are generally half length. The words are etched above the heads of the speakers. Of the barbers three are comely women (who please their customers), other figures are much caricatured. The barbers maltreat their customers through negligence or lack of skill, or flatter them grossly, or amuse them with good stories. 16 December 1794 Hand-coloured etching
