- Included in H.M Colvin's 'Dictionary of British Architects' (first edition), p.511. The following text is taken from Colvin's entry on William Robinson: 'Surveyor to the Gresham Trustees, was on August 7, 1767, appointed to supervise the expenditure of the £10,000 voted by the House of Commons for the repair of the Royal Exchange. According to Briton and Pugin, 'Public Buildings of London', i, 1825, 292 "almost the whole of the western side was rebuilt" under his direction. he also held the post of surveyor to the East India Company from 1757 until his death, which occurred on December 25, 1767. [Gent's Mag., 1767, p.611; A.P.S.D.]'
