Curator's comments
The series is listed in John Bowles' catalogue for 1749 pp.34-5. They are there described as perspective views, and this plate is number 2. The series at this point consisted of 39 plates. The Adams reference refers to a later collection of London views from Bowles's stock, assembled by Francis West c.1840.
