Curator's comments
See 1880,0110.63. After a painting signed by Le Nain and executed in 1642; the painting was in England in 1801 (Bessborough sale, 7 February) and was acquired for the collection of the future Marquess of Stafford. The painting is then found in the Sutherland collection where it remained until it was bought by the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1930
