- Presumably copied from the engraving by W. Byrne, with the figure by W. Woollett, published as part of 'The Antiquities of England and Wales' on 15 August 1780 (an impression is in the Department, 1935-5-20-2).
The figure represents Charles Davy, former tutor to Sir George Beaumont, and a close friend of both Hearne and Woollett (see D. Morris, 'Thomas Hearne and his landscape', 1989, pp. 44-5).
