- The 'New Picture of London' was first published in 1820. This volume also includes, following the table of contents, Rowlandson's 'Characteristic sketches of the lower orders', a series of 54 humorous coloured etchings originally issued in 1820, published by Leigh to accompany the 'New Picture of London'; for description see 1878,0511.659. It was bound into the present volume at the Museum; a pencil annotation on the first sheet notes that pages 23-24 and 415-416, not present, were already missing when it was sent to the binders in February 1936.
The folding map is 1878,0511.750; 1878,0511.747 is a view of Montagu House, the old British Museum.
Separate catalogue entries have been created for the series of etchings by Rowlandson.
