- Curator's comments
- There is a painting by Pierre-Roch Vigneron held in Versailles (MV 6653) which the Joconde database identifies as a copy after a pastel by Labille-Guiard shown at the Salon of 1791. This print was engraved after the same portrait.
Dr M M Gilchrist (email March 2021): 'The Vigneron painting is now thought to be after Danloux, rather than Labille Guiard. There are also questions over whether the subject is Maximilien Robespierre'.
