Acquisition notes
1877,0811.1225 to 1280 all came from the sale of the collection of the Rev. John Burleigh James, which was sold at Sotheby's between March and May 1877. They were all purchased by the BM after the sale from Goupil, from the lots that they had bought on their own account. It is not easy to work out which lot they had come from as there were 5699 lots in the sale.
