- Description
-
The learned lady: a very messy interior with at centre a woman sitting at a desk, holding a quill and looking up, seemingly waiting for inspiration; various jars, books, instruments and antiquities are on display on her desk but also scattered on the ground; the learned woman is completely oblivious to what happens around her, as in the nbackground a servant is seen stealing from a cupboard, while on the left her dishevelled children are left without supervision; in the background, a man warming a pot at the fireplace; after Ramberg. 1802
