- Curator's comments
- The prophecy was purportedly found in the library of St James in Prague in 1621, and attributed to Johann Huß (ca 1370-1415).
The prophecy for the year 1620 (image 2/corresponding text) describes the Bohemian/Palatine Lion as defeated. This vision reports actually past events, i.e. the defeat of the Bohemian Protestants at the Battle of the White Mountain and the conquest of Prague. The prophecy for the year 1621 (image 3) shows the unity of Transylvania and Hungary under Gabor Bethlen. The prophecy for the year 1622 (image 4) reflects the wish for peace. The prophecies for the years 1623/24 announce general catastrophies (images 5 and 6), whereas the last two prophecies reflect again the the hope of political and and confessional unity ("There will be one shepherd and one flock")
This broadside had been published earlier (1621; see Paas 661-3), and the prophecy was also published in pamphlet form (Par-Novorum I. Mirandum. Ist ein Offenbarung....,n.p., 1621)
