- Curator's comments
- Although the lettering does not include the names of Picot or Cogniet, this information is provided in a later hand on the verso of the backing sheet and in the Register. IFF does not include this print, but the identification of Picot and Cogniet is confirmed in Augustin Jal, "L'Artiste et le philosophe: entretiens critiques sur le Salon de 1824", following a note on the lithographs illustrating the work, as part of a list the artists responsible for them: "M. Cogniet a eu la bonté d'exécuter le dessin d'après le tableau de Mr. Picot (Céphale et Procris)".
