Portrait of John Pennington, bust-length, in an oval lettered with the title and decorated with a shield, weapons, martial instruments and a gorget, slightly turned to the right, with a small beard and moustache, in armour with a large pauldron on his right shoulder, a sash over his pauldron edged with lace, a lace collar at his neck with hanging ties, ships in sail beyond through the window; his arms below five fusils conjoined in fesse, a scroll below supported by two dolphins
