- Curator's comments
- This plate was first published in the series 'Vauxhall and Ranelagh Gardens', listed in John Bowles' catalogue for 1753 p. 46 and this is plate number 8. The plate was reissued a number of times, before coming into the hands of Francis West in the mid-nineteenth century, whose 'Collection of Views' used the plates from the stock of John Bowles and his successors. By this stage the plates were not in good condition, which explains the poor impression.
