Curator's comments
Based on a grisaille painting on panel by Bruegel done for Antwerp humanist, antiquarian and geographer Abraham Ortelius, now in Upton House, near Banbury, England. Ortelius had the painting engraved in 1574, and the print reproduces the image in the same direction. The date 1574 is lettered on at the lower edge of the bottom margin of the plate in the first state.
