- Curator's comments
- This woodcut (almost certainly designed by Giorgio Vasari) comes from Pietro Aretino`s `La Vita di Caterina Vergine e Martire`, published in Venice by Francesco Marcolini, 1541. It is one of three woodcuts in the book. The other two show `St Catherine`s body being transported by angels` (also in the BM, W,1.88), and the `Martyrdom of St Catherine`. Another impression of the present print showing the 'Mystical Marriage` is 1955,0325.77.
