- Object: The Grey horse at the end of his journey.
- Description
-
A horse with Grey's profile inset, plods along, the reins on its neck. The riders are the King and Queen, as an old farmer and his wife; cf. George III and Queen Charlotte in No. 6918, but the Queen sits astride and in front. She holds a bundle of 'Real German' [Sausage] and a wicker basket of poultry, the birds thrusting coroneted heads between the bars. He has a hamper of pigs wearing bishops' wigs. Behind the horse (kicked off by Grey) a cock with Wellington's head falls to the ground. A cock with Cumberland's head still perches on the hamper. King and Queen, quarrelling who should guide their mount, which is laden with 'vermin' taken up by the Queen, have given the reins to the horse, and it has at last taken them safely to their destination (the Reform Bill), see No. 17134, &c. Cf. No. 17114.; proof before the published state.
