- Curator's comments
- Daniell made this drawing and others catalogued by Binyon as numbers 2 -46 (1872,1109.1-64) while on tour in Lycia with Lieutenant Spratt and Professor Forbes in the spring of 1842; drawings numbered Binyon 47-55 were made during a second unaccompanied tour in the summer of the same year which ended in Daniell's death from fever.
Binyon's order follows the route of the travellers described in Spratt and Forbes's "Travels in Lycia", 1847. The spelling of Turkish place names follows that in "Reisen in Lykia", an account of the Austrian expedition of 1881-82, published 1884 and 1889.
