Curator's comments
This is the second of five different woodcuts from the same design (Schr. 1808-12), of which the original is ascribed to Ulm, c. 1470. The original block of one of the other versions is in the BM (Schr. 1812). The present cut is the only version with errors in the inscription, cf. Dodgson, Woodcuts of the XV Century in the British Museum, vol. II, London 1935, no. 233.
