Title
Object:
Representation of the election of Members of Parliament for Westminster. 1820
Description
A reissue of No. 13006, by Scharf, on the Westminster Election, perfunctorily adapted to 1820: the date in the title is altered from '1818' to '1820', that of the publication line to 'March 1820'. The inscriptions are much as before except for the two placards on the state of the poll: that for Westminster is blank, that for the City (see No. 13706) is as in 1818 except that the last name is altered from 'Atkins' to 'Bridges'. Three placards held out on the hustings are 'Burdett', 'Hobhouse', 'Lamb'. Burdett and Hobhouse were returned on the 15th day (25 March); they stood as Radical Reformers and victims of Ministers. Lamb stood as a Whig without Ministerial support; he was 446 behind Hobhouse. 1820 Etching and aquatint, hand-coloured
