- Bartsch suggests that this print is after Titian. For another impression see Sévigné XI.I.95; for a copy see 874,0613.578, and 1847,0318.76
The print must date from around November 1533 because at that date Aretino acknowledged receipt of a gold chain from Francis I and the chain shown in this portrait exhibits a substantial fleur-de-lis. At the latest, it had been produced by November 1535 when a woodcut version appeared as the frontispiece to a reprint of Aretino's Cortigiana (Venice: Francesco Marcolini, 1535.
