The sitter has not been identified. He is described as a ‘credenziere’ of the Acquaviva household and, at the time of the caricature in 1748, as an assistant florist in the Apostolic Palace.
‘Credenziere’ refers to both the steward in charge of the larder and the person responsible for the banquets’ apparati. ‘Credenziere’ and ‘dispensiere’ are synonymous.
1748 was the year of Cardinal Troiano d’Acquaviva’s (q.v.) death, it is therefore possible that the sitter had to change his work position after the event.
