The inscription reads: 'Father Baccheri, English Gesuit confessor in St. Peter's in Rome. Died on 25 July 1743 and was exhibited in St. Ignatius, where he was buried at the age of 75. A real gentleman and very good musician. He died of asma at 10 o'clock'
The name is probably Baker or Backer. A full lenght caricature is found in the Vatican Library, Codice Ottoboniano Latino 3116, c. 72v. (Rostirolla, cit,, 2001, no. 318, p. 420; Maria Cristina Dorati da Empoli, 'Pier Leone Ghezzi. Un protagonista del Settecento Romano', Rome 2008, p. 236 and see digi.vatlib.it). This latter caricature is dated by Ghezzi 10 July 1735 and he writes that Baccheri used to be the first to arrive and the last to leave at his Music Academy held every Monday.
