Ghezzi describes the sitter as a Venetian preacher in the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle. This is Francesco Girolamo Bona (ca.1688-ca. 1751) and a full-length caricature of him dated 1728 is in the Vatican Library, Codice Ottoboniano Latino 3117, c. 28 where Ghezzi writes he was a very popular preacher (see Maria Cristina Dorati da Empoli, 'Pier Leone Ghezzi. Un protagonista del Settecento Romano', Rome 2008, p. 257 and see digi.vatlib.it).
Bona is known to have been in Rome around 1727, where he was close to Cardinal Barberini.
