The sitter is the architect Gabriele Valvassori (1683-1761) who created the façade of Palazzo Doria-Pamhilij on the Via del Corso in Rome. Ghezzi’ inscription specifies that this was the façade opposite the French Academy, which from 1725 to 1803 had its Roman premises in Palazzo Mancini.
