- Curator's comments
- This is a plate from "Toneel der Vereenigde Nederlanden, en onderhoorige landschappen" (Leeuwarden: Hendrik Halma, 1725), a series of full-length portraits of rulers of the Netherlands from the Medieval counts to Philip II, see 1871,0114.403-421 and 1871,0114.423-431.
François Halma took over the original plates of the illustrations to Cornelis van Alkemade's "Hollandse jaar-boeken of rijm-kronijk van Melis Stoke" (1699) and modified them for this series of portraits. He also added a decorative frame to the portraits with a separate plate.
