- The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy, London in 1851 (No. 552) with a passage describing the replacement of Maypoles on the restoration of Charles II.
The print's publication and distribution as a presentation plate for subscribers to the Art Union of London in 1862 was announced in 'Fine Arts' in the 'Illustrated London News', 1 February 1862, p.112 (information from Donato Esposito).
