- Curator's comments
- Engraved by William Woollett and published by Pars, 1774; reissued by Boydell, 1783.
One of a series of Alpine scenes painted by Pars to record a journey he made in 1770 in the company of Lord Palmerston. For curatorial comment on these Alpine watercolours see 1870,0514.1220. For a detailed account of the whole tour see A. Wilton, 'William Pars: Journey Through the Alps', (Zurich, 1979).
1868,0808.3158 is another version of the same composition. According to A. Wilton it is the prime version, but 1870,0514.1223 is the version engraved by Woollett (A. Wilton, p.23).
