- Curator's comments
- Finberg disputes the existence of two state for the etching, as described by Rawlinson, arguing that what are generally called first states are simmply very weak impressions, in which the men in the boat on the right are almost invisible; cf. 1920,0721.6, which would appear to support this view; Forrester notes that the original painting on which this is based can no longer be traced, cf. G. Forrester, Exhibition Catalogue, "Turner's 'Drawing Book'. The Little Liber", Tate, London 1996, no.40.
