- Curator's comments
- One of a series of 14 prints by P.S. Bartoli after Giulio Romano's monochromatic paintings in the Stanza di Costantino, Vatican, Rome (for the series see curator's comment for 1972,U.220.1). The subject of this print is St. Gregory the Great writing homilies with the help of the Holy Spirit’s dove (the print is catalogued in J.D. Passavant, 'Raphael d'Urbin et son père Giovanni Santi', Paris 1860, II, p. 309, n.247). Trimmed around all edges, therefore the name of the publisher does not appear in this impression.
