See BMSat 10815. A court scene. In the foreground is an oval table round which Counsel are seated. One stands, leaning forward and shouting at a trembling witness who stands chapeau-bras beside the table. Two judges are seated on the left under a Gothic canopy. The jury are in a box stretching across the court, and in front of three Gothic windows. On the r. are two tiers of spectators, closely packed. Beneath the design: 'Being nervous and cross examined by Mr Garrow. - ' 1 April 1807; volume published 1808

Garrow was a consummate advocate, unrivalled in cross-examination, which he conducted with tact rather than violence. 'D.N.B.' He became Attorney-General in 1813, and (holding both offices) a Baron of the Ex-chequer in 1814. Cf. BMSat 7718.
