Scandal relating to a liaison between Lady Graves (1783-1835) and the Duke of Cumberland had appeared in newspapers for some months. On 22 Jan. Greville records a story that they had been detected by Lord Graves (from whom she had long been separated); on 7 Feb. Graves cut his throat. 'Letters of Countess Granville', 1894, ii. 58-60. See Nos. 16012, 16024, 16025, 16026, 16033, 16034, 16035, l6030, 16156, 16635, 16644, 16718, 16952 [5], 17052, 17102, 17274. For the title cf. No. 15731, &c. Copied in Nos. 16033, 16035.
