A broadside satirising those members of the Corporation of London who supported the Peace of Paris and their presentation of an address at St. James's Palace on 12 May 1763. Etched illustration showing Charles Asgill, "Locum tenens" for Lord Mayor William Beckford, kissing the naked backside of a man wearing a tartan plaid (either George III or Lord Bute); behind him stand the Duke of Ancaster, Lord Great Chamberlain, and a group of aldermen. Engraved inscriptions, letterpress title and verses in two columns recounting their new found appreciation of the benefits of peace in spite of opposition met with during their procession from the City, and with one vertical segment of type ornament. - Sir Charles Asgill led the delgation in the deliberate absence of the lord Mayor.
"Gotham" refers to the fools' stories of the "Wise Men of Gotham", and stands here for London.
