- Curator's comments
- During 1742, many important constituencies gave instructions to their representatives in respect of their conduct in Parliament. London desired of its Members "to postpone every other consideration; particularly the supplies for the service of the ensuing year, till they had renewed the Secret Committee of Inquiry into the conduct of Walpole". Both Bristol and Nottingham tried to undermine this instruction with their own instructions. (see BM Satires 2577)
The broadside here reproduces the words of two MPs in Parliament, defending Sir Robert Walpole.
The etching is altered, previously used in the broadside "The funeral of faction" (BM Satires 2487) as a reply to "London's conduct" (BM Satires 2577)
