- Description

Satire on the former members of the Opposition who took power at the fall of Walpole. The members, each with a ribbon at his feet indicating his title, place or post, are lined up preparing to receive honours offered by George II who, wearing full armour, leans out of an upper window of St James's Palace at right; Walpole stands in the foreground, to right, saying, "Behold the Aim Of Opposition". First in line is Secretary of State Carteret holding the Treaty of Worms, followed by Pulteney, Earl of Bath; then, Winchilsea, Lord of the Admiralty wearing thick spectacles; Sir William Yonge, Cofferer; Allan, Lord Bathurst, Captain of the Band of Pensioners; William Finch, Vice Chamberlain; the Duke of Dorset, Lord Steward to the Palace; then the King's Remembrancer, probably William Steuart, King's Remembrancer for Scotland (it is unlikely to be a reference to the elderly Samuel Masham); Sir Jacob Ackworth, Surveyor to the Navy; Lord Wilmington, Lord of the Treasury; Vice Treasurer of Ireland (either Henry Vane or Pattee Byng who held the office jointly); and, Henry Furnese, Secretary to the Treasury (it is unlikely to be a reference to the elderly John Scrope, also Secretary to the Treasurer, who was a supporter of Walpole); behind Finch stand "His 2 Brothers" (Edward and Henry, respectively Groom of the Bedchamber and Receiver general of revenues of Minorca). On the left, John Hynde Cotton and Lyttelton look out of the window of an inn with a bunch of grapes hanging from its sign, they remark, "Very! Very! Very! Honest Men Indeed." and "Ah! I remember the Motion".
