Description
Satire on the early stages of the War of Austrian Succession with Robert Walpole shown as a wise owl preferring to remain above the fray, while "The neighb'ring Birds who seem to peck and prate,/Are his Opponents, strenuous in Debate", identified as Pulteney, Cobham, Myddelton and Gage. The various powers are represented as animals, birds and fish; as described in accompanying verses (1868,0808.3672). 17 November 1741 Etching
