Dutch broadside satirising Cardinal von Fürstenberg during his imprisonment, with an etching showing the cardinal leaning out of a cell window and vomiting on an orange held by William III while an owl defecates on him; a friar offers him a rosary, sausages, hams and some coins; two simpletons, on the left, make fun of him, as does a woman sitting in front of him astride a hobby-horse waving a whip with bells; beside her a dwarf wearing a hat with a fleur-de-lis at its crown (so perhaps intended for the Grand Dauphin, son of Louis XIV) and two tulips tucked into the hat band waves a purse; in the background a waggon and men on horseback; top left, a hand appears from a cloud holding a sword labelled "Orloogh" (War). - Like his brother, the cardinal was known for his pro-French position, which is addressed here within the context of French troops retreating from the Netherlands, and Cologne and Münster signing Peace Treaties with the Netherlands.
For another impression, see 1871,1209.4846. The print is an enlarged and altered version of BM 1871,1209.4838. It is unclear which version was published first.
