- Blum dates the plate from 1650, which appears too late according to Préaud (exh. cat. 'Abraham Bosse, savant graveur' (Paris & Tours 2004), No.94), who proposes to date the plate from c.1634.
The subject is identified as Thomas Killigrew by Stephens, but that is clearly not the case.
Hollar's copy of the print (Pennington 487; BM impression: Q,5.647) is accompanied by a verse giving the subject as "Letcherie".
