- Description

Two designs, one above the other, the upper, a copy (10709 D) of No. 10709, having a separate title and imprint: A Kick at the Broad Bottoms!- i.e. Emancipation of "All the Talents, &c. Vide the Fate of the Catholic Bill"
In the contrasted scene of 1829 George IV rises from the throne, his head hidden by a pillar, as in No. 10709, not, like his father, to kick out his 'Catholic' Ministers, but to embrace the Pope, whose head also is concealed. Beside the throne, at the King's left hand, sits Lady Conyngham; she says: "Arise & meet his Holiness, bend thy knee and worship him". The obedient King says : "Welcome to my heart most holy and Christian Pontiff - to thee I humbly bow and bend - Oh! grant me absolution, and may our meeting prove a blessing to my beloved but long oppressed subjects". The Pope's robe is held up by six men. First, Wellington (in a Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown, see No. 15499) and Peel; next, Lyndhurst and Brougham, both in wig and gown, last, O'Connell also in wig and gown and a thin long-nosed man (? a Jew, cf. No. 15770). On the cushion at the right of the throne rests the Catholic Bill in place of the Bible and crown of No. 10709, which, with the sceptre, lie on the ground, symbols of the alleged overthrow of the Constitution (cf. No. 15707, &c).
