Pamphlet entitled "The life and military career of Napoleon Bonaparte."
With an extensive text on the title-page which describes the contents of the book and the publisher's details at the foot of the page:
"London: Printed and sold by J. Bailey, 116 Chancery Lane and may be had of most Booksellers. Price One Shilling."
With a hand-coloured, wood engraved frontispiece illustration which represents Napoleon on horseback crossing the Alps with a column of soldiers and the standard of the Imperial eagle behind him. Lettered below the image:
"Bonaparte and his Army crossing the Alps."

- Number five of seven pamphlets acquired by the British Museum at different dates but bound together in a brown leather effect volume, lettered on the spine: "Tracts Illustrated by G. Cruikshank and others." 1805-1852. Bound together after 1875 (the date of the latest aquisition in the volume.)
Not catalogued by GW Reid but the registration notes state that the illustration is, a rare woodcut by G. Cruikshank.
AM Cohn (590) states: "Coloured frontispiece, "Bonaparte and His Armt Crossing the Alps." by G. Cruikshank, unsigned, but the Truman copy was signed in ink by the artist."
Acquired from Frederick William Pailthorpe a contemporary of Cruikshank.
