Curator's comments
For earlier state with address see 1860,0414.262. Vico hoped to find work with Charles V and probably made this engraved portrait of the Holy Roman Emperor in an attempt to curry favor, as is implied by an introductory letter from Pietro Aretino to Cardinal Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle at the court of Augsburg in 1550. (Peter Parshall and David Landau, 'The Renaissance Print: 1470-1550,' New Haven and London, 1994, p. 285-6)
