Studies of the principal characters in Dibdin's "Harlequin and Fancy", consisting of Whim, in a fanciful tunic with ruffed collar and bearing a staff, the tip shaped as Mr. Punch; a dancer with castanets; Apollo in a chiton, crowned with laurel and holding a lyre; the Clown (as portrayed by Joseph Grimaldi) as Game Cock, with clown face, a ruff of feathers, a tail and 'spurs' attached to his boots; the Waterloo Orphan, in a dress and short jacket, wielding a sword; and the Waterloo soldier, in the uniform of a soldier of a foot regiment in greatcloak
